Abbiamo diverse tipologie di\u00a0<strong>solarimetri<\/strong>, ciascuno di essi differente in base al principio di funzionamento. Essi si suddividono in:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>solarimetro a cella fotovoltaica<\/strong>il cui funzionamento \u00e8 sostanzialmente legato a seconda di quanta elettricit\u00e0 venga prodotta: andando infatti ad esporre la cella alla radiazione solare, buona parte delle radiazioni vengono assorbite e convertite in energia elettrica. Questa tipologia di\u00a0<strong>solarimetro<\/strong>\u00a0viene impiegata per quantificare l&#8217;energia prodotta dagli impianti fotovoltaici.<\/li>\n<li><strong>solarimetro a termopila<\/strong>il cui scopo principale \u00e8 quello di misurare la luce del sole tenendo conto del calore che genera. I\u00a0<strong>solarimetri<\/strong>, dunque, sono dotati di una serie di termopile che fungono da sensori di temperatura; una termopila \u00e8 formata da pi\u00f9 termocoppie collegate in serie. Tutti i\u00a0<strong>solarimetri<\/strong>, infatti, sono anche\u00a0<strong>piranometri<\/strong>, poich\u00e9 questi componenti assolvono alla stessa funzione, ossia quella di misurare l&#8217;intensit\u00e0 delle radiazioni solari. Se si collegano due semiconduttori caricati in maniera differente (uno con un eccesso di elettroni e l&#8217;altro con una deficienza di elettroni), congiungendoli con due giunti a temperature diverse, si configura una differenza di potenziale tra le due giunzioni che \u00e8 l&#8217;effetto\u00a0<strong>Seebeck<\/strong>. Un piranometro \u00e8 costituito da un numero ingenti di termopile poste in serie. A questo punto, il giunto caldo viene esposto alla radiazione solare, mentre quello freddo resta in ombra: il risultato che viene prodotto da questa differenza di potenziale fornir\u00e0 il quantitativo di radiazioni che irradiano il sensore. Inoltre, grazie alla capacit\u00e0 di assorbire lo spettro della radiazione solare, il\u00a0<strong>piranometro<\/strong>\u00a0ha la capacit\u00e0 di operare senza energia elettrica, ricavando quella necessaria al suo funzionamento grazie al principio stesso dettato dalle termopile.
